DHCP Disabled Error: How to Enable DHCP for Epson Printers

Your Epson receipt and kitchen printers communicate with the Upserve POS through your POS Network. When you set up your printers, your printers should automatically generate an IP Address within your POS Network. Sometimes printers fail to connect to the POS Network because the printer DHCP is disabled and needs to be enabled in order to connect.

In this article you will learn how to enable DHCP for your printer. If you factory reset your printer or are trying to set up a printer that you did not purchase from Upserve, you will need to enable DHCP and manually configure your printer.

How Do I Know if a Printer's DHCP is Disabled?

To check if DHCP is enabled or disabled on your printer, you will need to print a test or IP slip.  After you print the test slip, locate the section of the slip that shows the following information:

IP Address    : 192.168.192.168
SubnetMask    : 255.255.255.0
Gateway       : 192.168.50.1
DHCP          : DISABLED

Next to DHCP, check if the status says EnabledDisabledAcquiring - Manual or Static.

Note: If the DHCP is Enabled, your printer should be able to automatically generate an IP address that connects the printer to your POS network and you do not need to follow the steps in this article.

If the IP Address is valid (ex: 192.168.50.2), you may need to simply add the printer to HQ in order for it to start printing.

If the IP Address is 192.168.192.168 your printer is not connected to the internet and cannot locate your POS network. Check that the ethernet cable is firmly and correctly connected between your printer and router (or switch) and is a working cable. You should also check if you internet is working and other devices are online.
